Another great achievement by a Badaga

Central Research Institute, the oldest Vaccine Institute of National Importance was started in the year 1905 as Pasteur Institute of Northern India by the Britishers on the land donated by the Maharaja of Patiala at Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh.

This Institute is engaged in the production of vaccines such as DTP group of vaccines,Typhoid vaccine, Jepanese Encephalitis Vaccine, and yellow fever vaccine in addition to various antisera products against rabies, diphtheria,tetanus and snake bites. Various diagnostic reagents are also being manufactured for research purpose.

This is the only Institute manufacturing yellow fever vaccine in the whole of South East Asia for people visiting visiting African and South American countries.

This Institute is spread in two campuses measuring to more than 68 acres and there are more than 700 employees working in this Institute.

This Institute is directly under the control of the Director General of Health Services, Ministry of health and family welfare, Government of India, New Delhi.

This is the first time in the history that a badaga scientist, Dr.K.R.Mani, has been appointed as the Director of this premier Institute wef 24th June 2006.Dr.K.R.Mani was the Deputy Director of Pasteur Institute of India, Coonoor earlier to this appointment

His wife Mrs. Geetha Bai is the professor of Commerce and economics in the Providence College for Women at Coonoor. Dr.Mani has a son and a daughter and both of them are doctors. Dr. Mani is highly qualified and a well known scientist in most of the Indian Universities.

Our badaga Community must be proud of having scientists like Dr.K.R.Mani belonging to Kavaratty to head such a prestigious vaccine Institute

[size=24][size=9] Dear All

Dr. H. Devaraj will surely be a role model for some of our young badaga aspirants in various fields. At this point of time, I request let us all put hands together to give maximum possible publicity to Dr. H. Devaraj among our young badagas by word of mouth, by publishing details in papers, magazines, web blogs and honouring him in important occassions. I would surely contribute my part to this task
