is it wrong to say mummy and daddy? does it mean that we lost the heritage of badaga language? the environment in which today they are living brings about a radical change. it is happening for the great languages like tamil where is badagu? can we have answer for the cultural invasion in the languages?

does the english vs badagu arguement is only for the people living in abroad ( it seems most of the time the arguments are going that way only)?

Pls don’t think it in a narrow way. Usually a kid will learn the things (what ever it may be) from their parents if I’m correct. I think it is the parents responsibility to teach all these…XYZ... things since they r badagas.
Pls don’t compare with tamil or other lang….as u know, in many “developed” countries including US, still they r taking India as an example for many outstanding things though we r in “developing” status. Why not badaga… icon_smile.gif ???

Actually my opinion is that we have forgotten the basic cause for the need of a Language. Languages are developed for proper communication of human feelings. But we people have forgotten this basic cause and speaking in english has become a status issue.

But I don't think, It is possible to express entire feelings by other languages such as english. Some feelings can be expressed only through mother tongue. Hence, the mother tongue is more important than others which are in general of commercial purpose only.

Hence, If we understand the basic need of the languages properly, we will be knowing what language has to be used where and as such our language will be saved and developed apart from becoming proficient in other languages which is of more necessity for socio-economic growth.

Yes gopinath .As you said we really think that its a matter of status. Anybody can talk or learn any number of languages. But they should know to speak their mother tounge well without any twist. English is really a very important and necessary language as it is common world wide. At the same time our own language should be considered important too. We try to speak good english and more over with the very correct accent. why not think the same way for our mother tongue? Why badaga with english accent????? "maad dhu" for maadodhu is the best example i can gv now.

Once again I want to say that it is a matter of status. This is just to show the people that I am a man/women living in city and leading a modern life. If u pronounce the words properly the people think that there will be no difference between u and them. But, the fact is that there is no difference in basic mentallity between a village people and people living in city.

Hi Purni and all friends!
*Well, as many families living in cities with a mixture of languages and cultures they really might not have given importace to badaga specifically.
*Since they seldom speak badaga, their fluency is also less.
* Whereas in Hatti we speak our badaga more often than they do.

We can correct a person who accepts his mistake and ready to accept corrections. But for those who pretend.GOD knows!
It is up to them to change themselves keeping in mind the importance of our language for the coming generations.
