Dear All,
Yesterday, there was a meeting convened by the new dynamic collector of Nilgiris to discuss the issue of cleaning up Nilgiirs. As a first step it was decided to first begin by cleaning up Ooty and to start of the campaign, it has been decided that on 30th July 2006 sunday, there shall be a rally from Charing Cross to the Boat House and a cleaning of the Water hycanth at the Boat House be started. This is a rally, where the collecter decided that it will be by the citizens ( not school children) and all the people will be involved in the clean up act. He has sent a proposal to the Government to clean up Nilgiris and if it gets through, there are chances that some good things will happen at Nilgiris.
Your Comments and suggestions are welcome, so that it can be put across to the collector and implemented.
If anyone can suggest a name for the campaign, within the next 48 hours from this post, it will be considered and the good one will be selected.
Please contribute your mite to this effort

May sound silly... but thot no harm in posting it..
Mite sound more like a caption than a name for the campaign.
"CLEAN OOTY."(isnt that too simple but says it all)
OUR DUTY.
THE QUEEN'S(as in the queen of hill station) BEAUTY!!!
was trying to think something in tamil...but my tamil vocab is too little...
One thing that came to my mind was the song from 'Nammavar' ---- Swargam enbadhu namakku, sutham ulla veeduthaan.....
Its an activity which is the need of the hour...A lot of tourists are disappointed due to the lack of cleanliness in OOTY...
All the best for the cleanliness drive... hope a lot of people participate and give their full support.
Keep us updated on what plans have been finalised and how the drive goes...
Regards

Hi,
My two cents
Beforehand make the locals aware that such a campaign is happening boss. So that the interested ones can take part. Especially the women because when you educate a woman you educate the whole family.
Campaign Name
1. Clean Drive
and some campaign slogans too -
1. Cleanliness for a beautiful Ooty
2. Cleanliness to restore the beauty of Ooty

The collector is coming back to Ooty tommorrow morning. I have suggested the name as CLEAN OOTY / CLEAN KOTAGIRI /CLEAN COONOOR. where CLEAN stands for Clean Lovable Environment At Nilgiris. I have also designed a logo and have forwarded it to the collector. The next meeting is scheduled on Thursday evening Six pm. A decision may be taken at that meeting. There will be advertisements and Publicity to ensure that many people participate in the Rally. The rally is just a begining as the plans are afoot to change the entire system as to the way the garbage is handled and disposed and it is going to be a long campaign involving all segments of the society.
thanks to Malakrishnanis and kausalya for thier valuable suggestions.
Hope more people join this movement |

Today there was the meeting. It has been decided that the rally will start from the Breeks ground, go through the main road upto Mariamman temple and from there it will go through main bazaar to bus stand and from there to the Boat house. I request all the people who go through this forum to please inform all your known friends and relatives and ask them to participate in that rally. This should be a true citizen participation and those who talk about improving our community and happen to be in Nilgiris should take at least a step and particpate actively in this rally.
Regards

The Rally is confirmed and will begin at 9.30 am from the HADP Breeks stadium and culminate at the Boat House. I request all our members to keep everyone at their hatty informed and ask them to participate. It is a peoples movement and all of us should ensure that this becomes a success.
The logo was released today at a press conferenc in the Horticultural House at Charing Cross by the collector. This logo was designed by me and has recieved wide appreciation. It will be put up in all important locations and all the boards of the Govt at Nilgiris will have this logo on it.
Arrangements are on to ensure that the rally is a success. |

The Rally was successfully held today. About 1500 people participated in the rally. The good news was that our Minister Mr.Ramachandran also walked the entire lenght from the HADP Breeks ground to Boat House along with others. At the Boat House all the assembled people took an Oath to keep Ooty clean and after that cleaned a small portion near the rail track in the boathouse. About 2 loads of garbage was removed by 12.30 pm. Later the collector announced that a proposal has been sent to the Government to lay a path for walking alongside the water line with lighting arrangements. Similarly to implement an integrated clean Nilgiris program, a proposal of about 55 Cr has been sent to the Govt. |
