Hello friends,

Looking forward to having a light-hearted discussion here icon_smile.gif .
Could some of you recount the popular games that badaga kids used to play about 15-20 years back?
For instance, my hatti has lengthy grassy slopes. During my childhood, whenever I visited my hatti I could see scores of kids sliding on those grassy slopes using wooden sledges ('Gane'). It used to be one of our favorite pastimes.
But now it seems kids there just prefer to play cricket/ football or watch tv at home.

I am sure many of you will have nicer things to share icon_smile.gif

Cheers!
Naveen

Sepy (Using 3 golies--throw two)---its has some rules like Bacha,Veli and so.
7 Kal-hatta ...
Jon and Adi (Either using stone or Goli)
Playing Lottary was famous..

Seluthatta ..(using some spongy ball or polybag tightly packed)..

Kathadi ..(Either using the bamboo stick that to broken from Goodai{Basket} or by Leavs)..

And one more i remember the very great game....
Oot-Y--->>>OOTY..
C,o,o,noor--->>>Coonoor..

Such a big compilation, never imagined there were so many games!

Santhosh, by lottery think u have mentioned Tambola if Iam not wrong, piercing the tickets with a "maar koolu" and calling "line" and "house" when the right numbers are met. We used to play it under our Hetthe Kallu mora during new year. Wonderful memories.

Although I live in Delhi, I go to my hatty quite often (need to re-energise with old friends and smell the fresh air). I still see kids playing many of the games mentioned here.

I remember I played a game called garikkai aata 13 yrs back...3 or more people are needed to play this game....

A twain of 1 feet is used,one guy will be chikki or sikki(dont know the exact word in english icon_biggrin.gif ) all the other guys will be trying to pickup the string and run away meanwhile if the chikki or sikki touches a person holding the string then he will become chikki or sikki.

I used to have great fun playing it icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif Golden old days

Ram, Pallankuzhi is different from haralu. Pallankuzhi consists of small "Gui" (Kuzhi in Tamil, could i call it a "Pit" in english!!??), probably numbering eight such Gui's and moving the coins (our people generally use "Baralu avare" instead of coins) from one Gui to the next.

Haralu is played with "Jalli Kallu", which will take a polished shape after continuous usage. Think we used 6 kallu's, a sequence of throwing the haralu's, catching them was the general rule. I did play it with my sisters although it was more of a feminine game.

"Sebey" is right, but "Bendha", think is different eventhough both are played with marbles. In Bendha we use the fingers for shooting with the thumb firmly in the floor, while in "Sebey" the hands do not touch the floor, just aim and throw the marble at the target. "Sebey" was generally played for money, while "Bendha" was played for winning more marbles.

I think santosh should throw more light into the 7 Kal haata...

Hari…pallanguzi…u’r explanation may be right coz I don’t know much about the same.

Sebey is also called as bhendha. The game which you’ve mentioned is called “siptu” if I’m not wrong (difference due to seemeys icon_exclaim.gif icon_question.gif ). Infact, I was one of the excellent players among my friends (hatty) …longggg back icon_wink.gif icon_lol.gif .

It is called as 'Kan Aralu'
